Thirty years on, one of television's most beloved shows has taken up residence on Queen Street Mall — and Brisbane fans are already booking out sessions.

Thirty years since its 1994 debut, FRIENDS remains one of television's most enduring cultural phenomena — ten seasons, an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series, individual Emmys for Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow, and still streaming globally on Max. The fact that a live, immersive experience built around it is drawing crowds in 2026 says something not just about nostalgia, but about how rarely a show earns that kind of staying power.

Since April, Level Q at Uptown on Queen Street Mall has been home to The FRIENDS™ Experience — Queensland's first stop on a global tour that has played in over 30 locations worldwide, including flagship runs in New York and Las Vegas. The production behind it is serious: Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences, Original X Productions, and Fever have collectively built some of the world's most celebrated immersive attractions. This is not a pop-up cash grab. It's the real thing.

The Experience

We visited last month, and from the moment you step in, the tone is set immediately by the energy in the room — friendly staff, a genuinely fun atmosphere, and fellow visitors who are absolutely there for it. The fandom on display is part of the experience itself.

The walkthrough begins with the iconic yellow picture frame that surrounded Monica's apartment peephole — here repurposed as a screen cycling through classic moments from the show. It's a small touch, but it immediately signals the level of care that's gone into this. From there, you move into a room anchored by the famous fountain and couch — the most recognisable image in the show's visual language, and the moment it clicks that this is the real thing faithfully rebuilt.

Beyond that, the exhibition opens into costumes, wigs, and memorabilia before swinging you into the hallway outside the two apartments — where one of the best photo opportunities of the entire experience awaits. Visitors crowd outside the doors, heads poking through into Monica and Rachel's apartment for that perfect group shot. The apartment itself is flawless, right down to the window overlooking the adjacent building. Joey and Chandler's place is equally well-realised — a different energy entirely, and just as fun to be inside.

Then comes Central Perk. The detail here is simply extraordinary — the kind of set recreation that makes you do a double take. And yes, another photo opportunity, because of course.

One standout moment: the couch jammed into the stairwell. Ross's infamous "pivot" scene rendered in three dimensions. It's a small thing, but it landed — and we weren't the only ones laughing.

The Verdict

The experience wraps up at the merchandise store, where you can collect your photo package from the various set stations alongside exclusive FRIENDS™ keepsakes. It's genuinely an all-family affair — we saw grandparents, kids, and everyone in between — and a true fan haven for those who loved the show.
